Our list of the best motherboards for AMD Ryzen processors will begin with the Crosshair lineup from Asus. The ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero is hard to ignore when discussing AMD Ryzen 5 3600 motherboards. The crosshair series was one of the top boards we could not ignore while listing the Ryzen 7 3700x motherboards or the Ryzen 9 7950x motherboards.

It has a large rear I/O cover and an all-black PCB with heatsinks. Black heatsinks cover the power circuitry and have inlets on them. A brushed aluminum cover on top of the rear I/O cover features ‘Crosshair VIII’ in its engraving, while beneath it, over a shiny silver stripe, ‘HERO’ with RGB LED lighting is written. The shiny silver stripe extends down to the bottommost M.2 heatsink. The classic ROG emblem is illuminated with RGB over the chipset heatsink. Aura Sync allows you to customize the RGB.

In terms of performance, this motherboard sits at the top of our list, and its 14+2 VRM design is surrounded by two massive heatsinks, which is also why it is at the top of our list. The heatsinks are connected to the I/O cover through a heatpipe, maximizing the surface area for heat dissipation. Dedicated heatsinks are placed in each M.2 slot, and a chip-level heatsink has a fan rated to last 60,000 hours. There is no doubt that this motherboard delivers excellent power delivery and thermal performance and even compares favorably with some of the X399 motherboards that are extremely robust.

IOs

There are two M.2 slots and eight SATAIII ports on the Crosshair VIII Hero, each of which has a dedicated heatsink and supports PCIe Gen4 SSDs. The memory section can hold up to 128GB of DDR4 RAM overclocked to 5100MHz. Besides offering three M.2 slots at a similar price, most users will not even use the second slot. Check out our guide on the best PCIe Gen4 SSDs. A PCIe 4.0 x1 slot is also available, as well as two PCIe 4.0 x16 reinforced slots.

There are only a few flaws with this motherboard as we go along. There are 12 USB ports in the system: seven USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-A) ports, one USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-C) port, and four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports. This computer has a lot of USB ports so you can connect all the devices you want, and still have ports left. Additionally, it has a BIOS flashback button, a clear CMOS button, and two LAN ports. A gold-plated audio jack and optical S/PDIF out are also included, powered by ROG SupremeFX S1220.

It is a motherboard that has no flaws except for its high price, according to the Asus ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero. Ryzen 5 3600 motherboard with top-quality VRM, exceptional thermals, premium aesthetics, and a wide range of connectivity options.

  Reviews

Due to its moderate pricing and well-rounded features, the Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus has managed to earn the second position on our list despite its lukewarm reviews.

Compared to their Crosshair or ROG lineups, TUF Gaming is a step down. The X570 Plus is aimed at gamers on a budget who are looking for a simple, straightforward option. As for aesthetics, the X570 Plus is adorned with the trademark TUF Gaming color scheme. The PCB also features gray accents, which enhances the contrast between colors. RGB LEDs can be found under the right-hand side of the board and around the chipset heatsink, creating an attractive color contrast. Heatsinks are stylish and decently sized on the X570 Plus, and they are branded.

The aesthetics are great, but this motherboard’s main concern revolves around delivering excellent performance. It uses a 12+2 VRM design and 50A MOSFETs with 480A current output to accomplish this. We recommend getting a budget CPU cooler for the extra push and aesthetics as well as for the extra power that this setup offers. This setup will handle a 3600 on stock and overclocked settings. An active cooling chipset heatsink prevents the X570 chipset from overheating. The cooling rituals are performed by medium-size heatsinks linked by direct-touch heatpipes. Its legendary Asus reliability, combined with these features, ensures that you won’t be disappointed with the TUF Gaming X570 Plus.

IOs

In the X570 Plus, you can install up to 128GB of RAM through the four DIMM slots that feature a dual-channel architecture. Only two M.2 slots are provided this time around (both of which support PCIe 4.0). In addition to supporting NVMe and SATA accelerated drives, both slots have dedicated heatsinks. Eight SATA3 6GB/s ports are also included. An Asus Safeslot operates at PCIe 4.0 x16 speeds with the primary GPU slot. The card includes a PCIe 4.0 x4 primary slot, a PCIe 4.0 x1 expansionary slot, and a PCIe 4.0 x4 expansionary slot.

This laptop could have been better equipped with more USB ports on the back panel. The PC has seven USB ports in total: three USB 3.1 Gen2 (including one Type-C) and four USB 3.1 Gen1. A USB hub can, however, be added if you want more ports. Other than that, the I/O panel is great: PS/2 combo port, HDMI, DisplayPort, 2.5G LAN, BIOS Flashback and Clear CMOS buttons – the X570 Plus has it all. Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC S1200A audio codec and five 3.5mm audio jacks. A S/PDIF optical input is also available.

Therefore, I rank the Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus among the best gaming motherboards for Ryzen 5 3600 because it is a superb mid-range motherboard aimed at hardcore gamers.

Gigabyte’s B550 Aorus Master, which uses AMD’s B550 chipset, takes the fourth spot on our list. This is a highly capable motherboard based on the B550 chipset.

It is easy to tell by looking at this board that it is a premium product because it always has that trademark Gigabyte elegance when it comes to aesthetics. An all-black PCB with stylish heatsinks that are brushed aluminum in color. The RGB lighting only appears on the shroud and on the VRM heatsinks, so there isn’t much RGB to see. On the chipset heatsink, the Aorus emblem, which is a trademark feature of the Aorus lineup, is engraved as well as five dedicated RGB headers, allowing you to meet all your lighting requirements.

On to the performance part, this motherboard is capable of handling the most power-intensive processors. This motherboard can handle subsequent overclocking with great ease due to its 16-phase VRM arranged in 14+2 pattern with 70A power stages. This top-notch VRM is combined with a top-notch heatsink system that is effective in dissipating heat. A fin-array heatsink is connected to the thermal heat pipe and baseplate for maximum heat dissipation. As a result, the B550 Aorus Master is capable of overclocking the Ryzen 5 3600 without exhibiting major thermal issues.

IOs

Up to 128GB DDR4 memory can be stored in the B550 Aorus Master at a speed of 5200MHz+. In addition to three M.2 slots operating at PCIe 4.0 x4, there are also six SATA 6GB/s ports. In the primary slot, both SATA and PCIe devices are allowed to be used, whereas the other two slots are only compatible with PCIe drives. On the graphics side, we have a full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and two full-length PCIe 3.0 x4 slot. Most users will be satisfied with this setting, but if you’re looking for more, you’ll want to buy an X570 motherboard that supports SLI or CrossFire, respectively.

We get 12 USB ports on the B550 Aorus Master’s rear I/O panel, which is quite a busy one. Gigabyte has also included a complete networking package with a WiFi 6 AX200 controller as well as a 2.5GbE ethernet port. Six of the ports are USB3.2 Gen2 (including a type-C) while the remaining six are USB 2.0. In addition to the five analog audio jacks and optical S/PDIF, there is also HDMI connectivity. All of these audio codecs are powered by Realtek’s ALC1220-VB audio codec.

Aorus Master B550 is a highly capable and versatile motherboard packed with tons of high-end features. However, its steep price tag forces it to place fourth on our list.

Cons

Very Few USB Ports

  Reviews

B550 Aorus Master motherboards are excellent enthusiast motherboards with high prices. However, MSI’s flagship killer, the MAG B550 Tomahawk, might be a bit out of the budget for most consumers. The Tomahawk has managed to reduce the price tag to a huge extent without sacrificing much on features.

Initially, we see a black and grey-themed PCB on the Tomahawk, which follows the same theme as the massive heatsinks that take up quite a bit of space on the board. MSI has taken a minimalistic approach when it comes to the Tomahawk’s aesthetics. To minimize costs, manufacturers typically exclude RGB lighting from budget motherboards. In contrast, MSI has added RGB LEDs under the chipset heatsink on the Tomahawk. It makes the board look all the more appealing, as the lighting can be controlled through MSI’s Dragon Center software.

In MAG B550 Tomahawk, 13 phases of power are configured in a 10+2+1 configuration, with two chunky VRM heatsinks cooling the 60A MOSFETs under heavy load. During testing with the 3600, we were quite impressed with the Tomahawk’s performance. A water pump header and eight PWM/DC fan headers are included as well. The M.2 Frozr shields provide the best possible performance for solid-state drives. The Ryzen 5 3600 can be overclocked decently on this motherboard.

IOs

In addition to the two M.2 slots, the Tomahawk has six SATA connectors rated at 6GB/s, and one supports PCIe 4.0 x4 while the other supports PCIe 3.0 x4. The B550 chipset supports up to 128GB RAM at max frequency. There are two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots powered by the B550 chipset along with a primary PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and a secondary PCIe 3.0 x16 slot at the middle of the board. AMD CrossFire two-way is included in the B550 Tomahawk, something even the Aorus Master couldn’t provide.

The MAG B550 Tomahawk from MSI does have its downsides, too. For instance, the I/O panel features six USB ports (two of which are USB 3.2 Gen2). In addition, WiFi isn’t integrated, but this can be remedied using a PCIe WiFi card. The system does, however, come with two ethernet ports rated at 1GbE and 2.5GbE and an optical S/PDIF audio stack rated at five pins. Realtek’s ALC1200 codec manages the audio department, which is better than most competitors. Our best budget Ryzen 5 3600 motherboard of this list is the MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk with superb performance and a very affordable price.

Reviews

In our next feature, we’re taking a look at the ASRock B550m Steel Legend, one of the best motherboards for Ryzen 5 3600.

With a black PCB adorned with camo patterns (especially around the socket) and shiny silver heatsinks, this motherboard really stands out. ASRock has chosen to put subtle RGB placement over the rear I/O cover, which also illuminates in RGB. On the rear I/O cover, we see an engraved ‘S’ that illuminates in RGB as well. With its gray triangles towards the right for contrast, the all-in-one chipset heatsink is one busy-looking heatsink. In spite of its compact size, the board is certainly stylish. Nevertheless, if you love RGB, since the motherboard has limited RGB headers, you can install an RGB controller for fans and LED strips.

A 10-phase VRM paired with 50A DrMos and an 8+4 Hi-Density power connector has been used by ASRock. By driving heat away from the VRMs and keeping them cool, heatsinks also work with VRMs to ensure smooth power delivery as well as reduced power loss. Also, the heatsinks help prevent thermal throttling over the B550 chipset and M.2 slot. As a result, the Steel Legend motherboard is a capable performer, but do not expect it to overclock with ease.

IOs

Featuring four DIMM slots, it can handle 128GB of RAM at 4733+MHz overclocked speeds. It also features two M.2 slots along with six SATA3 ports, and the primary M.2 slot also supports PCIe 4.0. In addition, the board features two full-length PCIe slots out of which the primary supports PCIe gen4 and the second M.2 slot shares lanes. In addition, the board features two full-length PCIe slots that are shared with the second M.2 slot. A PCIe Wifi module can be installed in the provided PCIe 3.0 x1 slot since the motherboard does not have a wireless module.

With regard to the rear I/O panel, you’ll find a pre-mounted shield and plenty of ports. The USB port count is impressive – two USB 3.0 (Type-A and Type-C) and four USB 3.0 (Type-A and Type-C). The Dragon 2.5G module is used for the LAN. Onboard graphics are also provided through HDMI and DisplayPort, although they may not be useful when coupled with the 3600. The five gold-plated audio jacks are equipped with the Realtek ALC1200 audio codec, which provides rich audio quality.

Its excellent features and performance make it one of the best micro-ATX motherboards for Ryzen 5 3600. Furthermore, it is a superb value, thanks to its affordable price.

Pros

Support for overclocking is considerable

There is a possibility of installing 128GB of RAM

The best audio codec on the market

Cons

There are only six USB ports

PCIe 2.0 utilization is underwhelming

  Reviews

This motherboard from Gigabyte, named one of our top B450 motherboards, provides users with a premium experience without the need to worry about PCIe 4.0 speeds. It is also listed in our best B450 motherboards list due to its impressive performance.

B450 Aorus Pro Wifi features a stylish and sleek design with a black and silver theme that embodies the Aorus brand. Gigabyte’s Aorus motherboards give off a classic premium feel. This board comes with shiny silver heatsinks for the VRM and chipset, along with orange accents that give it an Aorus vibe. In the same vein, the rear I/O cover has an Aorus logo carved on the silver surface and illuminated with RGB lights. A backlit Aorus falcon is visible over the chipset heatsink and looks like it came straight out of a Transformer movie. More RGB is visible on the motherboard’s bottom left corner.

It offers a VRM with 11 phases in an 8+3 design and phase doublers for cooling, so you can even overclock the 3600 with the cooling rituals done by two relatively large heatsinks that perform decently enough to overclock. With the Ryzen 5 3600 and B450 Aorus Pro Wifi configurations, we tested various coolers. The large I/O cover further aids in dissipating heat. Thermally, the Fractal Design Celsius+ S24 Prisma was the best cooler with its 4.3GHz and 1.212v performance. Utilizing the same configuration, we found the best balance between thermals and acoustics in the Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black cooler.

Two PCIe 3.0

A dual memory architecture enables 128GB RAM to be supported at 3600MHz speed in four DIMM slots of the Aorus Pro Wifi, and there are two PCIe 3.0 x4/x2 slots for M.2 SSDs. There are also six SATAIII ports and three full-length expansion slots, while the remaining slots conform to PCIe 2.0. PCIe 3.0 is only supported by the primary x16 slot.

You have only six USB ports to play with on the I/O panel, which is without a doubt quite underwhelming. There are two USB 3.1 Gen2 ports (including a Type-C port) and the rest are USB 3.1 Gen1. Networking is handled by a 1GbE Intel (I211-AT) ethernet controller, as are HDMI/DVI-D connections. An ALC1220-VB codec from Realtek powers the five analog audio jacks and the digital audio jacks on the back panel.

For its price and feature set, the B450 Aorus Pro Wifi motherboard from Gigabyte is a fantastic value motherboard. It is probably the best motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600 in the market today.

 Reviews

There is no doubt that the B550m Steel Legend was a motherboard to be reckoned with due to its good design and incomparable power delivery, as well as the fact that its predecessor, the B450m Steel Legend, was an even better motherboard for the Ryzen 5 3600.

Basically, the B450m Steel Legend resembles the B550m Steel Legend very much in the sense of its look and features. The PCB has the same camo theme as the B550m, with a silver VRM heatsink surrounding it near the CPU socket. There is one small difference that can be seen on the former’s rear I/O cover, which now has a cutout with RGB lighting instead of an ‘S’. The chipset heatsink on top of it is smaller and has RGB lights all around it. With the use of the Polychrome software, all of these RGB lights can be configured.

Performance-oriented, it features premium 60A chokes with 6-phase power. The alloy heatsinks responsible for cooling the CPU are also good at stock settings. You might want to look for an aftermarket heatsink for your M.2 NVMe drive since there are no heatsinks for any of the M.2 slots. The chipset heatsink also prevents the B450 chipset from heating. There is no way to overclock the Ryzen 5 3600 on the B450m because it only offers the bare minimum performance.

PCIe slots

Two full-length PCIe slots are included on the board. These slots do not support PCIe 4.0, so only PCIe Gen3 and Gen2 interfaces are supported. Additionally, there are only four SATA3 ports and two M.2 slots, so storage is also somewhat limited. In addition, the second M.2 port shares lanes with the third SATA3_3, which means you can only use one at a time. The memory support is 128GB at speeds of 3533+MHz, so there are no problems there.

Asus’ TUF Gaming X570 Plus’s premium model only has seven USB ports on the rear I/O panel, so that’s quite impressive. Two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A and Type-C ports, four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, and two USB 2.0 ports are included in the package. Additionally, an HDMI port, a DisplayPort port, an optical S/PDIF out port, and an RJ-45 LAN port with Realtek Gigabit LAN support are available. There is also a nice feature included, ASRock’s full spike protection for the ports, which minimises or negates power spike damage.

A good budget AM4 motherboard with just the bare minimum performance, without any overclocking or premium features, ASRock B450m Steel Legend is the perfect choice for those who don’t need any extra features or overclocking. Also, because of that very reason, it is ranked as the best cheap motherboard for Ryzen 5 3600. Moreover, there are even cheaper options such as A320 motherboards, but we recommend that you only get them temporarily if you have a tight budget. Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding the Best Motherboards For Ryzen 5 3600.

How To Pick A Motherboard

If you want to purchase a motherboard for your 3600, you should ask yourself, “What exactly do I want from it?”. You move on to research once you have established a clear-cut answer to the question. Those factors will lead you to your penultimate buying decision, because there could be several answers to that question.

Chipset

Ryzen processors can be used with a wide variety of motherboard chipsets, so choosing the right chipset is the first step. It is an established fact that Ryzen processors are compatible with a wide array of motherboard chipsets. Frankly speaking, that’s not always a blessing, since pairing an A520 motherboard with a high-end Ryzen 5 5900x can lead to confusion. You should choose the Ryzen 5 3600 chipsets in terms of safety and value. There are other options, but these are the most valuable. The X570/B550 are ideal for people who want to maximize features but do not care about money. However, the older 400-series chipsets are better if you don’t mind sacrificing some features for a little cash.

Form Factor

It’s time to choose your form factor once you’ve chosen your chipset. You can choose a motherboard with a size that corresponds to the case size. A motherboard comes in three main forms: full-sized ATX, micro-ATX, or mini-ITX. Generally, features are inversely proportional to the size of the board.

Thermal Performance

It is important to pay attention to the thermal performance of your motherboard when buying the best motherboard for your Ryzen 5 3600. You must wonder now, “How could I know the performance of a board without testing it?”, so the best way to answer that question is to research the motherboards. By reading the motherboard reviews and hearing what the experts have to say about them, you’ll get a thorough understanding of the performance each has to offer. In order to buy the perfect motherboard for your rig, you must complete this final step (and the most important).

  1. Other Considerations When Choosing a 3600 Motherboard

When choosing a motherboard, there are several other factors to consider. Some of these factors will determine which chipset you should use in addition to choosing a socket and chipset compatible with the 3600.

Video Output Port

There is no “G” in the model name of the 3600 model, so it is evident that the CPU does not have integrated graphics support, which effectively means that you will need to buy a graphics card separately. Plus, because the CPU does not have integrated graphics support, you will not need a motherboard with a graphic output port (e.g., HDMI).

Storage: M.2 Slots and SATA Ports

You need to ensure that your motherboard has enough slots to accommodate NVMe M.2 cards, the fastest SSD storage available.

The X570 and B550 chipsets have the most PCIe lanes, making them ideal for motherboards with the most x4 NVMe M.2 slot availability. The X570 is the only one of the two that supports PCIe 4.0.

Connectivity

Check that the motherboard has enough USB ports at the speed you need. Motherboards with X570 chipsets have 12 USB 3.2 2×1 (10 Gbps) ports, whereas the B550 only supports 6 at these speeds. The X570 has the most USB 3.2 2×1 (10 Gbps) ports.

Storage devices and high-resolution video devices are typically the devices that require high bandwidth rates.

Read more on  best motherboards under 200

Audio

Ensure your motherboard has the audio outputs you need. For instance, if you have a surround sound system, make sure that the motherboard includes rear and center speakers. A motherboard with an optical input port may be a better choice if your audio equipment requires one. If you wish to add additional ports, such as optical and RCA, you can buy a PCIe or USB sound card.

Form Factor

There are three form factors typically used by motherboards. ATX is most often used for desktop PCs, but you can also build mini-PCs using Mini-ITX or MicroATX motherboards. In addition to fewer PCIe card slots and RAM slots, these smaller form factors will not support as many storage devices.

Mini-ITX and MicroATX motherboards use a subset of the ATX mounting holes, so they are backwards compatible with standard ATX cases. It is possible to use Mini-ITX motherboards in MicroATX cases if your case is compatible with your motherboard’s form factor.

PCIe Expansion Slots

Multiple graphics cards can be configured at PCIe 4.0 speed in a dual x8 configuration with the X570 and B550 chipsets in the 500-series. However, the A520 chipset offers very limited functionality, allowing only one graphics card to be connected via the slower PCIe 3.0 x16 slot.
