The best motherboards for Ryzen 7000
It is finally time for AMD to bid farewell to the AM4 socket, which served it well since 2016. The new AMD Ryzen 7000 processors require a new motherboard for the first time in years. AMD looks to the future as it introduces the AM5 socket, along with a range of new motherboards.
We’ve selected some of the best AMD Ryzen 7000 motherboards in order to let you take advantage of your top-tier processor. Currently, only the X670 and X670E motherboards are available, but in a few weeks we’ll see the cheaper B650 boards.

ASRock X670E PG Lightning

ASRock X670E PG Lightning Support AMD AM5 RYZEN 7000
The best value motherboard for Ryzen 7000
PROS
An excellent price-to-feature ratio
Slots for four M.2 drives
Display with animations
CONS
Hardware that is older
In contrast to the ASRock board we discussed above, the Gigabyte X670E Aorus Xtreme board improves on its shortcomings. In addition to 10Gbps LAN and built-in Wi-Fi 6E, it offers similar networking options to the (considerably more expensive) Asus. There are also two USB-C 20Gbps ports on the back and front of the laptop, so data transfers will be faster.
There’s no doubt that the colorful LED screen on the front adds some shine to a case, which may be important to some users or insignificant to others. In addition, Gigabyte adds a powerful 18+2+2 VRM design to the overclocking support.
AMD EXPO supports memory overclocking, as well as Intel XMP profiles. You’ll be able to update the BIOS without even installing the processor, RAM, and GPU because there are four M.2 slots for a GPU or solid-state drive (SSD). Although the audio hardware on this motherboard is based on an older Realtek audio codec, it is still a solid board if you are willing to overlook that.

Gigabyte X670E Aorus Xtreme

GIGABYTE X670E AORUS Xtreme
PROS
Design that is beautiful and unusual
Phases of 27 power
Connectivity is excellent
CONS
Every build won’t suit it
LAN speed is only 2.5Gbps
The AMD Ryzen 7000 motherboard looks great, but there’s no accounting for taste. This high-end motherboard stands out from the usual RGB-lit crowd with its faux marble heat spreaders and its high-end look. It does so in style, which is both a definite plus and a drawback. If it suits your style, then it’ll really set your desktop apart — it’s not for everyone, but if it does, it’ll really stand out.
Despite its aesthetics, the X670E motherboard provides a lot of power control and connectivity for a middle-of-the-pack price. The board has eight SATA 3.0 ports, two USB 4/Thunderbolt 4, and one PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot. However, its LAN controller only supports 2.5Gbps as opposed to some of the other boards that offer 10Gbps.
You should be able to achieve high overclocks on the Taichi Carrara without straining your build too much since it features a 24+2+1 power phase and enlarged heatsink armor.

Having got a fancy GPU, a beefy Ryzen 7000 CPU, and a motherboard on your hands, you’re ready to shop? This is one of the best motherboards you can buy — but it’s so expensive that some people build a whole PC for its price.
With the M-Vision Dashboard, you have access to a fully-realized 4.5-inch IPS LCD screen, complete with touch controls that keeps you informed about your PC’s performance. If your CPU is overheating, the dashboard will let you know. In addition to checking the weather and turning off your PC, it lets you monitor your entire system. You can stick it to your case for easy control, since it connects via USB.
There’s nothing surprising about MSI’s choice of networking and connectivity for this model. If only this motherboard weren’t so expensive, it would certainly be one of the best motherboards we’ve seen for quite some time. It has 13 USB ports, Wi-Fi 6E, and a 2.5Gbps LAN controller onboard… If only it wasn’t so expensive, it would be one of our favorites.

MSI MEG X670E Godlike

MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE Gaming Motherboard
PROS
With one button press, you can update and reset your BIOS
Slots for four M.2
Heatsink for M.2
CONS
Ethernet 2.5Gbps
Review
With the ROG STRIX X670E-E we’re back to Asus again, this time with the ROG STRIX X670E-E. It’s fairly affordable compared to the MSI Godlike, but lacks some features that the MSI board provides.
As a first point, it only supports 2.5Gbps Ethernet, not 10Gbps; however, it does support Wi-Fi 6E. With Asus’ attention to cooling, there were plenty of M.2 heatsinks, one of which was even bigger than the others, ensuring proper thermals all around. A Heatpipe connects two VRM heatsinks, which are then enhanced by thermal pads.
As a result, you’ll spend as little time in the BIOS as possible with this Asus model. Using a USB stick, BIOS Flashback updates your BIOS from a USB drive without booting into the BIOS, so you don’t have to go into the BIOS too much. In general, this is a good choice if you don’t want to overpay but still want some of the fancy features found in more expensive boards.

ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme(WiFi 6E) Socket AM5(LGA 1718) Ryzen 7000 EATX Gaming Motherboard
The best budget motherboard for Ryzen 7000
PROS
It’s much cheaper than many alternatives
Good overclocking support
M.2 slots included
CONS
No built-in Wi-Fi
Fewer ports
Review
Despite being one of the more affordable AMD Ryzen 7000 BOARDS out there, this one is still an X670E model at $250 to $300 right out of the box. Despite lacking a few of the features we talked about above, it’s still an excellent deal that won’t break the bank.
The ASRock board features an optimized VRM design. Featuring an eight-layer PCB designed to maximize stability, this board supports PCIe 5.0 for both graphics cards and M.2 drives. For extra security and smooth power delivery, it’s equipped with the latest Smart Power Stage (SPS) technology.
In terms of ports, it does not boast as many, but there are plenty of them, including USB 2.0, USB 3.2, USB Type-C, HDMI, and DisplayPort 1.4. While it’s not as flashy as the Asus, it’s an excellent choice if you don’t want to overspend on it. It supports 2.5Gb/s LAN for speedy connections, and it’ll let you overclock with a wide range of features.

Frequently Asked Questions
What chipset will Ryzen 7000 use?
With the introduction of the AM5 socket and a new 600-series chip set, AMD is retiring the AM4 socket after over five years.
In particular, LGA1718 is the design of the new socket. Intel uses LGA sockets for several generations, while AMD has remained true to Pin Grid Array (PGA) until now, so it is closer to Intel’s architecture than AMD’s previous solution. There are 1,718 pins on the LGA1718, a huge improvement over the AM4, which only had 1,331.
AMD Ryzen 7000 motherboards will use the 600-series chipset, which includes high-end X670E and X670 boards, followed by the budget-friendly B650 boards. However, the mid-to-entry-level boards will not be available until April.

Will Ryzen 7000 be DDR4?
If you were hoping to pair your Zen 4 CPU with some DDR4 RAM, bad news — AMD has switched to DDR5, and it will work only with DDR5. With a Ryzen 7000 processor, you no longer can use DDR4 memory, so you will have to choose some of the best RAM available at the moment.
As a result of AMD’s bold move, its new Intel Raptor Lake platform only supports DDR4, not DDR5.
AMD now offers PCIe 5.0 connectivity as well with the upgrade to DDR5 RAM, which was not possible with AM4 processors.

What’s the difference between X670 and X670E?
In addition to the AMD Ryzen 7000 processors, the X670 motherboard and the X670E motherboard are both high-end options. Although the X670E, also known as Extreme, is more premium and enthusiast-grade than the X670, it may come with more extra features. Manufacturers will differ in their differences.
The X670E motherboards do share one key feature, though. The Extreme option offers PCIe 5.0 connectivity on both the X670 and X670E motherboards, but it also includes M.2 and PCIe slots for the new PCIe standard. A different story exists for the X670, which only includes one of them.
