GIGABYTE B550M DS3H review

GIGABYTE’s B550M DS3H is the only exclusively AMD motherboard on this list that supports AM4 3rd generation processors.
GIGABYTE B550M DS3H, like many of the motherboards on this list under $100, is designed for Micro ATX style motherboards. However, this motherboard stands out for one major feature, PCIe generation 4.0 support.
PCIe 4.0
In comparison to every other board on this list, PCIe 4.0 provides 2x faster communication with the CPU to allow the add-in cards to communicate.
It might seem like a deal breaker to you, but do you think this makes the rest of the products you will read about today all the more unappealing?
Despite AMD’s major jump in the market when it released its third generation Ryzen processors, the peripheral device market has yet to catch up, and while this board may seem like it can handle this, there aren’t many parts available today that support these speeds, so in real world scenarios, you might not notice a difference at all.
This PCIe 4.0 is very nice in that it will not limit your PCIe lanes in the same way you would if you used a PCIe 4.0 in a Micro ATX. In other words, if you have an 8-lane PCIe 4.0 slot, it will give you the same bandwidth as a 16-lane PCIe 3.0 slot would. In theory, this could be a significant advantage because it would allow you to make your PC as fast as it can be in comparison with its PCIe 3.0 counterparts.

Several IO ports
In addition to the four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, four USB 2.0/1.1 ports, one RJ-45 port, and three audio jacks, the back panel of the GIGABYTE B550M DS3H has 1x PS/2 keyboard/mouse port, 1x DVI-D port, and 1x HDMI port.
The internal part of the board features a PCIe x16 gen4 slot and a PCIe x16 gen 3.0 slot, along with a PCIe gen 1 slot on the internal side. You have two m.2 slots for storage, and this upgraded PCIe system allows for a lot of performance on both of these M.2 slots thanks to the additional bandwidth available on the PCIe 4.0 platform. These m.2 slots become extremely important with the enhanced PCIe system.
The I/O connector on the interior side of the B550M DS3H include:
- 1x 24-pin ATX main power connector, 1x 8-pin ATX 12V power connector,
- 1x CPU fan header,
- 2x system fan headers,
- 2x addressable LED strip headers,
- 2x RGB LED strip headers,
- 1x CPU cooler LED strip/RGB LED strip header,
- 2x M.2 Socket 3 connectors, 4x SATA 6Gb/s connectors,
- 1x front panel header, 1x front panel audio header,
- 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 header, 1x USB 2.0/1.1 header,
- 1x Trusted Platform Module (TPM) header (2×6 pin, for the GC-TPM2.0_S module only) and
- 1x serial port header.
Finally, the GIGABYTE B550M DS3H has the ability to support up to 128GB of RAM running at 4733MHz, which makes it the perfect choice for those looking for a good motherboard under $100 due to its all-around quality build and PCIe 4.0 support.

ASRock B460M PRO4 review
supporting 10th generation

In addition to supporting Intel core processors with the 1200 socket, the ASRock B460M PRO4 is an Intel based motherboard.
You can connect up to three monitors through HDMI with 4k x 2k at 30 Hz and 4k x 2k at 60 Hz through the DisplayPort port when using Intel 10th Gen processors. Memory can be up to 128 GB.
This B460M PRO4 will be capable of supporting 7.1 channel audio and also has a new audio system which is referred to as Nahimic that is very effective when it comes to shaping the sound, particularly when it comes to getting perfect audio in games.
microSD card slot
On the mainboard of this board you will find a microSD card slot of 1x1GB as well as two PCIe 3.0 x 16 slots for you to expand your computer. The Mainboard has two PCIe 3.0×16 slots and one PCIe 3.0×1 slot for you to expand your computer.
A larger board, like this, also offers one Ultra M.2 SSD that can support 32 Gb/s up to Gen 3 x4 speeds, and another m.2 slot that can support the same speed. If both of these slots are used, PCIe slot 3 will be disabled, so it won’t be possible to use two graphics cards, which isn’t necessary nowadays since many things aren’t optimized for multi-GPUs.
There are six Sata 6Gb/s connections to add to the overall storage capacity in addition to the m.2 storage.
I/O connectors and ports
The rear panel has antenna bracket, 1x PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard Port, 1x D-Sub Port, 1x HDMI Port, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 4x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A Ports, 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C Port, 2x USB 2.0 Ports, 1x RJ-45 LAN and HD Audio Jacks: Line in / Front Speaker / Microphone.
The I/O connectors on the Micro ATX board are;

- 2x Addressable LED Headers,
- 1x CPU Fan Connector (4-pin),
- 1x CPU/Water Pump Fan Connector (4-pin) (Smart Fan Speed Control),
- 3x Chassis/Water Pump Fan Connectors (4-pin) (Smart Fan Speed Control),
- 1x 24 pin ATX Power Connector, 1x 8 pin 12V Power Connector,
- 1x Front Panel Audio Connector,
- 1x Thunderbolt AIC Connector,
- 2x USB 2.0 Headers (Support 4 USB 2.0 ports) and 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 Header.
You can find the ASRock B460M PRO4 one of the best motherboards in this price range if you’re in the market for a really solid budget option for your new 10th generation Intel processor.

A huge bonus for gamers is the inclusion of Nahimic audio and 7.1 channel audio support.
IO connectors and ports
As far as the board itself goes, it comes with two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, three PCI Express 3.0 x1 slots, and one M.2 socket. These are all able to support WiFi and Bluetooth, as well as all the latest software for WiFi and Bluetooth integration.
Two M.2 slots and six SATA 3 6GB/s ports make the H470 Phantom Gaming 4 a good choice for storage. In addition to the antenna bracket, the rear panel contains;

In the event that you have the space, you have a lot more options when it comes to PCIe slot configurations with the full ATX size. Having more room for custom cooling solutions and less cramming components into a small space makes full ATX boards easier to work with.
Despite ASRock’s reputation, it only offers an annual warranty, so its peace of mind may not match that of other manufacturers.
The ASRock H470 Phantom Gaming 4 is one of the few full ATX motherboards that won’t cost more than $100 if you’re specifically seeking out a motherboard that supports the newest Intel Comet Lake processors.

ASRock B450M Steel Legend review
It does so with the AMD Ryzen AM4 CPU configuration on the ASRock B450M Steel Legend micro ATX board.
In addition to supporting Ryzen generation 1, 2 and 3 processors, the B450M Steel Legend is designed to be compatible with the 450 series of motherboards. In the case of Ryzen 3rd gen chips, PCIe 4.0 is not available.
Since the Ryzen series of processors hit the market, ASRock has really stepped up their game and has become a board of choice because of its high-end features for the dollar, along with being one of the better Ryzen series manufacturers.
Ports and IOs
top down we have a back panel that has the following connections:
- 1x PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard Port,
- 1x HDMI Port,
- 1x DisplayPort 1.2,
- 1x Optical SPDIF Out Port,

Its warranty is only one year, which falls short of some of the other options.
PCIe x16 slot
Among the PCIe and storage options that the ASRock B450M Steel Legend has to offer are a PCIe x16, a PCIe x4, and a PCIe x1 slot. In addition, there are two M.2 storage options included with the CPU, however if you choose to use the second m.2 slot, then you will be able to disable the PCIe x 4 slot, which is pretty standard for consumer grade CPUs today.
In consumer grade processors, the number of PCIe lanes is usually restricted due to a limitation in the motherboard.
This motherboard is a great value for the price, offering premium quality and durability in addition to plenty of connectivity and features. There are a few shortcomings, including audio and Wi-Fi, but overall it is a great performing motherboard.

MSI Performance Gaming Plus B450 Review

AMD Ryzen gen 1, 2 or 3 processors are supported by the MSI Performance Gaming Plus B450 motherboard.
It’s definitely worth looking into MSI’s entry level gaming motherboard, as it’s one of the top performing motherboard manufacturers on the market.
With a micro ATX configuration, of course the MSI Performance Gaming Plus B450 had to sacrifice something. It supports a maximum of 64GB of RAM and supports speeds up to 3466 MHz.
A key difference between the MSI Performance Gaming Plus B450 and many other B450 boards is that it does not support the 3rd or 4th memory slots.
B series motherboards are primarily designed for budget gamers. They are cut down on features and give you what you need for great performance, not necessarily maxing out the platform’s maximum potential.
Ports and IOs
Starting on the back panel the MSI Performance Gaming Plus B450 has;
- 1x PS/2 Combo Port,
- 1x RJ-45 Lan port,
- 3x Audio connectors,
- 2x USB 2.0,
- 3x USB 3.1 gen 1 type A connectors,
- 1x USB 3.1 type-C connector and 1x HDMI port
Moving over to the inside I/O connectors the MSI Performance Gaming Plus B450 contains:

- 1x 24-pin ATX main power connector,
- 1x 8-pin ATX 12V power connector,
- 4x SATA 6Gb/s connectors,
- 2x USB 2.0 connectors (supports additional 4 USB 2.0 ports),
- 2x USB 3.1 Gen1 connector (supports additional 4x USB 3.1 Gen1 ports),
- 1x 4-pin CPU fan connector,
- 2x 4-pin system fan connectors,
- 1x Front panel audio connector,
- 2x System panel connectors,
- 1x TPM module connector,
- 1x Chassis Intrusion connector,
- 1x Serial port connector and
- 2x 5050 RGB LED strip 12V connectors.
4 SATA
It has a single PCIe x16 slot for a single GPU as well as two slots for a 120GB SSD. This motherboard also has one m.2 standby NVME drive for a fast transfer rate, four SATA 3 connections at 6Gb/s transfer speeds, and one m.2 high-speed NVME drive.
It can be said that the MSI Performance Gaming Plus B450 motherboard is a very intelligently designed motherboard that optimizes the small form factor of the board well while still delivering powerhouse performance. It is a motherboard that is built to do simple things well, but in a very smart way.

Asus TUF B450M-Pro Review

As one of the leading manufacturers of computer parts, ASUS is one of those leading companies that can offer you peace of mind that you are buying a quality product when purchasing the Asus TUF B450M-Pro Gaming AMD based motherboard. It is compatible with the AMD Ryzen gen 1, 2, or 3 processors.
In order to make sure the TUF series of motherboards is durable, the company has created the TUF series of motherboards. Even though the boards may not offer the highest levels of performance, they will be able to withstand more adverse conditions than most motherboards and are backed by Asus’s three-year warranty. Asus TUF B450M-Pro Gaming has the same micro-ATX form factor as some of the other boards on this list.
As the Asus TUF B450M-Pro Gaming allows its users access to a maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz when combined with a processor which has integrated graphics, it supports HDMI 2.0b with maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz, and DVI-D with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz.
IOs and ports
The Asus TUF B450M-Pro Gaming does not have built-in WiFi, but does support LAN connections up to 1 Gbps when paired with the Ryzen processor. The internal expansion slots include 1 PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16, and 1 PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x8 mode).
Looking at the back panel of the board you will find:
- 1x PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port(s),
- 1x DVI-D,
- 1x HDMI, 1x LAN (RJ45) port(s),
- 1x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A,

- 2x Chassis Fan connector (2 x 4 -pin),
- 1x S/PDIF out header,
- 1x 24-pin EATX Power connector,
- 1x 8-pin ATX 12V Power connector,
- 1x Front panel audio connector (AAFP),
- 1x System panel, 1x COM port header,
- 1x Speaker connector.
Micro ATX form factor
The Micro ATX form factor might restrict the amount of space you have for graphics cards; therefore, keep your cooling solutions conservative. If your case is not oversized, I recommend using a stock CPU fan.
Asus’ TUF B450M-Pro Gaming offers pretty standard connectivity and features. If you’re looking for a reliable motherboard that will last for years, then this one is the one for you. The TUF line up is known for its superb quality and longevity.
You may be able to score this on a special discount, but currently, the price is slightly more than $100. Nevertheless, it’s well worth the money.

Gigabyte B365M DS3H Review ~ best motherboards under 100
8th and 9th generation Intel core processors

This motherboard supports Intel’s 8th and 9th generation core processors with the LGA 1151 Socket and is based on Intel. Its form factor is Micro-ATX, which makes it one of the smallest motherboards available. If that’s important to you, you might want to check out this board a little more thoroughly.
You must be aware that when you use Micro-ATX, you likely give up a number of features from larger ATX boards because this format is so small. The most significant thing you give up is the number of expansion slots available. You need to make sure you choose the right cooling solution for your application based on this, so be sure to choose wisely.
1 PCIe x16 slot
Micro ATX motherboards, such as the Gigabyte B365M DS3H, come with multiple PCIe slots, but the Gigabyte does not offer upgrades for this board as it does not support PCIe x16 slots, PCIe x4 slots and PCIe x1 slots.
Additionally, the Gigabyte B365M DS3H supports 64GB of non-ECC RAM at frequencies of 2133/2400/2666 MHz, and Intel HD graphics are also supported. Three video outputs are supported by the onboard HD graphics support: 1 D-Sub port with a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 at 60Hz, 1 DVI-D port with a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 at 60Hz, and 1 HDMI port with a maximum resolution of 4096×2160 @ 30Hz.
3 displays
A Realtek network card supports high-speed internet connections up to 1 Gbps, and the B365M DS3H may be connected to 3 displays at the same time. However, it does not have WiFi built in, but it does have support for 3 displays at the same time.
For adding additional storage, the B365M DS3H comes equipped with 6 SATA 6Gb/s connectors, as well as one M.2 connector for the fast SSDs. If you get a bad BIOS update on this board, you won’t have to worry about downtime. It’s also ready to support dual bios.
IOs and ports
On the back panel you will find;
- 1x PS/2 keyboard/mouse port,
- the 3 aforementioned video ports,
- 4x USB gen 3.1 USB ports,
- 2x USB 2.0/1,1 ports,
- 1x RJ-45 port and
- 3 audio connectors.
The internal I/O connections are:

- 1x 24-pin ATX main power connector,
- 1x 8-pin ATX 12V power connector,
- 1x CPU fan header, 2x system fan headers,
- 1x RGB LED strip header,
- 1x M.2 Socket 3 connector,
- 6x SATA 6Gb/s connectors,
- 1x front panel header,
- 1x front panel audio header,
- 1x S/PDIF Out header,
- 1x USB 3.1 Gen 1 header, 2x USB 2.0/1.1 headers,
- 1x Trusted Platform Module (TPM) header (2×6 pin, for the GC-TPM2.0_S module only),
- 1x serial port header,
- 1x parallel port header and
- 1x Clear CMOS jumper.
As an added bonus, the B365M DS3H comes with a 3-year warranty as well as HD front panel audio that supports 7.1 channels.
Gigabyte is currently offering the B365M DS3H motherboard with a 3-year warranty for just $99.99. Although it isn’t the highest performing board in terms of performance, or any particular feature for that matter, it does still manage to perform as expected and has a full 3-year warranty. Also, even better, it falls well below the $100 price point.

Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A Review~ best motherboards under 100

Intel Core 6th and 7th generation processors can be supported on the Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A motherboard, which is built on the full ATX standard.
These older Intel processors weren’t designed to handle the speed and capabilities available today, so they’re not going to display the same level of performance as the newer processors.
32GB of memory running at 2400 MHz can be installed on the GA-H110-D3A. Using the single D-sub port, the onboard graphics support allows you to connect 1 monitor with 1920×1200 graphics at 60 Hz. You must enable the HD audio capabilities in the audio driver to take advantage of the 7.1 audio. Up to 1Gbps will be supported by the onboard LAN connector.
Featuring one PCI Express x16 slot on PCIe 2.0 and five PCI Express x1 slots, the GIGABYTE GA-H110-D3A offers a total of six PCI Express slots.
IOs and ports
For USB connectors the GIGABYTE GA-H110-D3A offers;
- 4x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (2 ports on the back panel,
- 2 ports available through the internal USB header) and
- 6x USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers).
On the back panel you will find;
- 1x PS/2 mouse port,
- 1x PS/2 Keyboard port,
- 1x parallel port, 1x serial port,
- 1x D-Sub port, 2x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports,
- 2x USB 2.0/1.1 ports,
- 1x RJ-45 port and
- 3x audio jacks (Line In, Line Out, Mic In).
On the internal connectors you will find:

- 1x 24-pin ATX main power connector,
- 1x 8-pin ATX 12V power connector,
- 2x PCIe power connectors, 1x CPU fan header,
- 3x system fan headers, 4x SATA 6Gb/s connectors,
- 1x M.2 Socket 3 connector, 1x front panel header,
- 1x front panel audio header,
- 1x S/PDIF Out header,
- 1x USB 3.1 Gen 1 header, 2x USB 2.0/1.1 headers and
- 1x Trusted Platform Module (TPM) header.
The board is a bit dated on this list, as I mentioned at the beginning of this review. The motherboard is a very decent choice for anyone working with this processor series because it is manufactured by a great manufacturer that guarantees its motherboards for a 3 year period.
Besides the great warranty, you can choose between liquid and air-cooling solutions with the full ATX form factor. This board has several PCIe slots, which is why it is referred to as a cryptocurrency board, since it can be loaded with up to six GPUs on a budget, and it’s considered a cryptocurrency board.
