Getting the best RAM but gaining only a few percentage points of performance? In that case, G.Skill’s new memory is the best alternative. In addition to the updated styling and raw power at the core of Trident, the Trident Z Neo provides improved reliability and raw power.
G.Skill RAM’s Trident line is named after its three prong heat spreader. The old models were monochrome, but the Neo is dual-colored. One side of each stick is black and brushed while the other shimmers bright silver. The RGB lighting coming from within is diffused by a milky white strip at the top.
G.Skill includes extensive lighting software with the Neo, but if you want your AIO, fans, and other components to be in sync, you don’t have to bother. The Neo is 5mm shorter than the Xtreem, so height conflicts should be rare.

A few months ago, G.Skill used the Royal, the pinnacle of memory customization in terms of style, to breathe some new life into the Trident series. Aside from being flashy, it’s one of the best RGB implementations on a memory stick I’ve ever seen. However, G.Skill also backed it up with performance worthy of the title.
As a result of its exceptional aesthetics, the Royal is polarizing, as many people will appreciate its lustrous heat spreader’s mirror finish; others will decry it as excessive. We’re in the former camp, and you’ll be in the latter camp once you see the RAM in person. If you don’t want the pristine finish to get covered in prints, make sure to wear cotton gloves when installing it. White case owners can rejoice, since a silver version is also available.
Despite its remarkable implementation, RGB deserves its own paragraph. There are eight addressable LEDs on each stick, which can be customized individually. However, it’s the diffuser that stands out the most. Light passes through these transparent pebbles, which are supposed to resemble crushed ice or diamonds. They produce a unique pattern as a result of light passing through them.

SK Hynix’s popular M-die has replaced Samsung’s B-die so far. With the Dominator Platinum RGB, Corsair’s lighting-focused RAM reaches its zenith. This kit has a unique aesthetic and the brightest LEDs money can buy. It turns heads and runs all sorts of programs smoothly. All these factors make it a worthwhile pick for Ryzen 9 5950X RAM. However, you can only decide if the investment and clearance issues are stumbling blocks.
Even though the Dominator is a distinct RAM line, its overall design is similar to the Vengeance RGB Pro’s. There is no conventional light diffuser on the platinum, but rows of gold or silver fins are in place, with the lights shining mostly through squares and a Dominator logo on top. The Platinum has the same penchant for tall heat spreaders and chamfered top edges.
It’s because of the debut of Capellix that the LEDs have changed position. Despite taking up substantially less space, they manage to outshine the competition while using much less power. Although their lighting is incredible, there’s a catch. Syncing is only possible if you have other Corsair products such as fans or peripherals, since it cannot be configured without iCUE.
The Epitome of Shiny!
For 5950X RAM, the Dominator appears to have pretty good specs. Its frequency is quite popular, if a little low, and its latency spread of 16-18-18-36 at 1.35V is quite impressive. If you’re not an enthusiast obsessed with 1-2% increases, you can get away with spending much less for similar performance with RAM. In addition to the new look, sensible RGB, and enough power under the hood to handle any task, Kingston’s redefined memory caters to the masses. And with 32GB available for under $100, it is even more appealing.
Having parted ways with HyperX, Kingston needed a new visual identity for their new memory cards. As anyone who owns a HyperX Fury kit will recognize from the suave black heat spreader, the Fury Beast doesn’t quite escape its predecessor’s shadow. As its name suggests, it’s more aggressive than its predecessor.
While the Fury Beast is not low-profile RAM, its RGB diffuser is not an inconvenience for systems with cramped space or massive air coolers. The lighting itself is even and pleasant to look at, and the motherboard synchronization works well. If you want to set the colors independently, the FURY CTRL app is a good replacement.
Beastly Power at a Tame Price
SK Hynix was the supplier of the memory chips for this particular model, but there is no official word on the ICs used. Because SK Hynix’s DDR4 dies are less malleable than their DDR5 dies, they are cheaper. It is a good match for the 5950X at 3600MHz, but its unremarkable CAS latency prevents it from reaching higher on our ranking.
In testing, the modest gains that could be achieved by increasing the voltage barely registered, so most users will be happy with the Fury Beast’s XMP profile and stable, relatively fast memory.
Performance-wise, what does CL18 cost you? It costs not as much as the price difference between Fur Beast and top-placing kits. It performs worse in artificial tests which measure bandwidth and read speeds. Unless you ran the NEO and T-force Xtreem side-by-side, you couldn’t tell the difference when playing a game or editing videos.
