Graphics Double Data Rate 3 (GDDR3) is a type of memory interface that provides two data rates, either 8 Gbit/s or 12 Gbit/s. GDDR3 is designed for high-performance graphics processing and is backwards-compatible with existing GDDR memory technology. GDDR3 is also more power-efficient than GDDR2. GDDR3 can provide up to 66% more data throughput than GDDR2 and consumes less power, allowing graphics processors to achieve higher performance with less power draw. GDDR3 also supports SLI and CrossFireX multi-GPU configurations.

In fact, it is the same computer memory as GDDR3, but it is designed for graphics cards. In fact, it is a special memory technology developed by ATI Technologies for graphics cards, the higher the digital value after the abbreviation means generation memory, the faster data the video card can process. It has the same core technology as GDDR2, but has a faster effective rate.

Graphics Double Data Rate 3

In order to improve the performance of graphics cards, GDDR3 video memory was developed specifically for them. As compared to DDR2, this memory generation has the same characteristics. However, it has an improved design that reduces power consumption and increases heat dissipation. Therefore, the memory operating frequency (900 MHz), respectively, can be increased. The GDDR3 tire technology is used with open-drain and attached to the specific implementation of Vnutrikristallnoy termination (on-die termination, ODT), which enables the formation of I / O GDDR3 tire technology as a result of the specific use of graphics memory, particularly GPU connections and DRAM with point-to-point topography. The PCB layout is simplified and clock speeds can be drastically increased as opposed to the push-pull bus used in standard DDR2.

In addition to the traditional 10% DDR3, there is also a DDR3L (L is Low) memory option with a voltage of 1.35 V. According to reports in 2012, DDR3L-RS memory for smartphones is manufactured exclusively in BGA packaging. There is a minimum memory capacity of 1 GB for DDR3 modules, and a maximum of 16 GB for SODIMMs. GDDR3 has a simple design despite using impedance-matching controllers to match impedance (impedance-matching controllers).

An NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra and a modified GeForce FX 5700 Ultra were used to install DR3. While ATI engineers and JEDEC developed the standard, this is the company’s first time using nVidia. In the Radeon X800 series, ATI used this memory type for the first time. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 also use GDDR3 memory.

Graphics Double Data Rate 3

GeForce FX NVIDIA’s 5700 Ultra was the first card to use technology developed by ATI, replacing GDDR2 chips until then. Next, the GeForce NVIDIA 6800 Ultra was used with GDDR3 chips, in which she contributed significantly to maintaining low power requirements compared to the GeForce 5950 Ultra cards it replaced. ATI began using the memory on their Radeon X800 cards.

In addition to GDDR3, it is also possible for NVIDIA to access system memory by means of its GPU, which is XDR DRAM, developed by Rambus Incorporated (this technology is also available from NVIDIA in graphic PC processors as TurboCache). There are 512 MB of GDDR3 memory in the Microsoft Xbox 360, which allows the system memory to function as well as the video memory. Wii also comes with GDDR3.

Advantages of GDDR3

Due to its unidirectional signal (strobe) and single-ended output (unidirectional & single-ended), GDDR3 has a faster reading and rewriting of pulse data during a treatment compared to GDDR2. GDDR3 memory differs from GDDR2 memory in that it is able to reduce interference with other systems at frequencies around 800 MHz, providing greater stability for the whole system. You can reset the GDDR3 memory using the hardware reset mechanism by removing all the data from the memory and restarting it after you’ve done that.

It is possible to reset the hardware with GDDR3, which allows the memory to be cleared and then started again.

Power consumption is reduced when voltage requirements are lower.

Frequency increases.

Produced easily.

Keeping the heat low.

Syncing GPUs, VRAMs, and PCI-Es is easy.

Marginal volumes are extremely high.

Cost-effective.

By a wide margin.

Timings with low latency.

DDR3 Features

A prefetch buffer of 8 words should be prefetched for each treatment

Separate contact for synchronous reset

The system should be able to compensate for readiness time

Modules can be assembled by flipping the pins

A system to measure the amount of time it takes to write to CAS

Termination data built into the software

Calibrating inputs and outputs (time monitoring and readiness levels adjustment)

Data collected automatically for calibration

Manufacturers of memory chips

DDR3 memory chip supply deals with these companies accounted for more than 10% in 2012-2013:

Samsung – 40%

Hynix – 24%

Elpida (in 2013 acquired by Micron Technology) – 12%

Micron – 12%

A small fraction of the Taiwanese also had Nanya (Elixir, Nanya Technology Corporation) and Winbond.

Differences from DDR2, GDDR4 SDRAM and GDDR5

DDR3 Advantages over of DDR2

Broadband speeds of up to 19,200 MB/s

Consumption of power is low.

Compared to DDR1, DDR2 has the following disadvantages

Higher capacity offsets higher CAS-latency

The more power, the better

Heat is reduced

Due to a lower frequency of working memory use, the following performance is observed.

CAS delays (3 to 6) result in a larger delay when transmitted at the same (or even higher) frequency.

Differences from ‘GDDR4 SDRAM

A lower energy consumption than GDDR3 (almost three times lower)

A slight increase in performance was achieved with higher operating frequencies (1.2 – 1.4 GHz).

My high price, coupled with the low popularity of this type of video, led to my replacement by GDDR5.

Differences ‘GDDR5

Until 5GHz, you can view the operating frequency.

GDDR5 is capable of transmitting data at 120 GB/s when using a 256-bit interface.

Accordingly, productivity has increased twice as much as with the previous generation of memory, energy consumption has been reduced, and the video memory chips have been reduced in size overall.

Graphics Double Data Rate 3

The AMD FirePro W2100 is a mid-range graphics card that was released in March of this year. It is based off of the Graphics Core Next architecture that is found in the more expensive AMD FirePro W5000 and W6000 series cards. The W2100 offers performance that is on par with the more expensive cards, but at a fraction of the cost.

The W2100 is a single-slot card that measures in at just under an inch wide and just over an inch long. It uses a single 6-pin power connector and is cooled by a single fan. The card can support up to three displays at resolutions up to 4K, which makes it a great option for high-end gaming or professional applications.

One of the key features of the W2100 is its ability to support AMD’s Mantle API. This allows the card to offer performance that is on par with the more expensive cards, while also allowing developers to create games that are more consistent.
