With this setup, you could add more lighting using the provided headers, but would you?

The X570 AORUS Master is one of our second favorite 5950X motherboards. It features one of the best cooling solutions and VRMs in the generation, and is dedicated to overclocking. By eliminating the chipset fan, the new X570S brings improvements to storage, connectivity, and cooling while leaving the chipset fan behind.
It ditches most of its shiny bits in favor of black metal and plastic, giving it a more “grown-up” aesthetic. As with Gigabyte’s Alder Lake boards, the newly redesigned chipset is still made of brushed aluminum and features a glitchy AORUS logo. You’ll find even more armor now than before, and the I/O shield looks particularly impressive. The redesign also introduces more subtle RGB lighting.
A great VRM solution was already built into the original, but the X570S improves on it significantly. Gigabyte has replaced your MOSFETs with new 70A ones, bringing your CPU a total power delivery of 980A. It has 14+2 phases, which means no teaming or doubling is involved. There are two 8-pin EPS connectors to ensure an adequate supply at all times.
Because there are so many phases, the processor’s surroundings won’t get overheated. The Master features dual fin arrays instead of slabs, so instead of using slabs, it has a massively increased surface area and cooling efficiency. Thanks to Gigabyte’s unique approach to VRM heatsinks, Gigabyte’s heatsinks will never get too hot. The board is not just for AIO-assisted overclocking but also works well with LN2 for users brave enough to go for the world record.
With ten fan headers, four of which are hybrids that also accommodate water pump components, the Master is among the most feature-rich boards for cooling in general.
Obey Your Master
Having an extra M.2 slot is a welcome addition. The board has four PCIe 4.0 M.2 and six SATA slots. There are enough lanes to connect up to ten drives at the same time. A PCIe 4.0 x16 slot rounds out this board. In addition to them is an audio cage that contains Chemicon and WIMA capacitors that support the high-end ALC1220-VB codec.
Continuing with our focus on overclocking, we now take a look at the remaining internals of the Master. Eight voltage reading points provide direct and accurate readings, as well as noise and temperature sensors. Power and reset buttons are also present, as are two-digit debuggers that can be used to pinpoint boot-up issues. There are also Thunderbolt card add-in ports, USB A & C for I/O, and four RGB headers.
I/O is of our own taste – it has plenty of sensible ports and is likely to be used by both productivity and gaming PCs. 12 USB ports make up the majority of the space. The ACE MAX is the best of the bunch, offering an impressive VRM upgrade, the latest networking and audio upgrades, and many storage options. In an attempt to keep up with Gigabyte, MSI also introduced the X570S refresh across several boards. The Master offers much of the same features for a lot less money, so it should be higher on the list.
A considerable amount of aesthetic work has been done on the ACE, compared to the new Tomahawk. The beautiful light-up dragon on the I/O dispels any notions to the contrary. The Gigabyte ACE’s fan grille and M.2 covers have been replaced with more subtle plating, making it look much more like a high-end Gigabyte offering. Golden trim from the old board remains for additional visual appeal.
The VRM for the 12900K must have been designed by someone at MSI and slapped on the ACE refresh. It has 16+2+1 direct phases that supply the 5950X with 90A of power each. It may seem ridiculous, but not if you’re trying to achieve near room-level VRM temperatures. You can take such claims seriously just by looking at the heatpipes connected to the VRM heatsinks.

An ACE in the Hole
A thickly padded metal slab shields each of the four M.2 drives from heat, ensuring that the ACE cements its place among the elite. There are eight additional SATA ports available for legacy drives. All three x16 slots are reinforced with metal, but the top slot should be inserted for maximum performance. If necessary, there is even an x1 slot.
There are six additional headers for case fans on top of the CPU & water pump headers on the ACE. If you really want to push the water cooling envelope, you can connect a water flow regulator and two thermal sensors. In addition, the board has a debug code LED display along with four debugging LEDs. The case features two USB 3.2 Gen 1 and one 10Gbps USB-C ports. A second 8-pin EPS connector is optional.
On the I/O, we see many welcome changes. Thankfully, there is no longer a PS/2 port. You do lose the second Ethernet jack, but at least you get WiFi 6E in its place. The 5+1 audio stack has been revitalized since it works using the new ALC4080 codec. There are now 12 USB connections, including three 10Gbps USB-A plugs and three 20Gbps USB-C plugs. Clearing the CMOS and flashing the BIOS remain the same as before.

For creators, this is a boon
As the back I/O is equipped with the flagship ALC1220-VB codec, a slew of high-quality capacitors are hidden under their own shroud. There are also three GPU slots available. The top two are shielded, and all of them support AMD CrossFire & SLI. Although it isn’t a feature worth mentioning for gaming anymore, it will be appreciated by anyone whose workday involves rendering for hours.
There are eight associated headers, but only two of them are hybrids. The case I/O gets USB-A & 10Gbps USB-C at 5Gbps. There are noise or temperature sensors that can be attached to regulate fan speeds based on either factor. You can also attach Thunderbolt through a separate header.
There are ten USB ports on the AERO G, including two USB-C ports. There is one regular port and one VisionLink port. The I/O of the AERO G provides many of the most intriguing features. Thunderbolt-like it is, it delivers power, transfers data, and delivers video. It also has a DisplayPort input instead of an output option.
Networking is handled by WiFi 6 antennas and 2.5G Ethernet, and audio is fully realized. BIOS updates are not made easier by buttons.

As a continuation of the trend of updating already critically acclaimed models, the X370S Tomahawk Max WiFi focuses on other aspects. The predecessor fixed the poor VRM of previous X570 MSI boards, so it is cooler, quieter, has better connectivity, and costs less if you buy it on sale.
The changes MSI made to the board’s aesthetic were not as significant as Gigabyte’s. It makes sense, given that the board lacks a fan, for the heatsink chipset to receive the most substantial rework. There are addressable and regular headers on opposite sides of the PCB for the board’s only native RGB source. Speaking of that, the board’s still black with gray stenciling and heatsinks that protect vital parts.
MSI made sure that the VRM would be perfect for any AMD processor from the outset, so it’s fine, because MSI ensured the system would be a great fit. With the 8-pin and 4-pin EPS connectors, you get 12+2 mirrored phases at 60A each. That’s a lot more than you’d think based on its price difference.
A good cooling system is provided by the mobo. Its two large VRM heatsinks aren’t connected, but that doesn’t diminish their efficiency. The system cooling includes four more non-hybrid fans for the case fans, along with two headers for the CPU. Overclocking-specific tools are also not included. In spite of this, the USB, RGB, front panel, and other headers are adequate for the price. There is also a four-LED debugger, which is a welcome addition.

Putting Its Improvements to Good Use
It has an open design at the bottom, but has heatsinks capable of handling both PCIe 4.0 M.2 disks and the chipset. With six more SATA ports, you can augment high-speed storage with no rail limitations. The top x16 slot is armored, and both are PCIe 4.0 compliant as well. For various expansion options, two more PCIe 3.0 x1 slots are available.
In the X570S version, you’re able to stick one DIMM at 500MHz faster speeds than the original Tomahawk. The original Tomahawk had DDR4 RAM with a max frequency of 4600MHz. It doesn’t matter much for Ryzen processors, but it means that all four slots will run at 3600MHz.
Despite being the last item on our checklist, the I/O of the X570S is where its improvements stand out the most. In addition to optical S/PDIF output, the ALC4080 codec is running in the audio stack. There are eight USB ports, a BIOS flash button, and an old PS/2 port, along with WiFi rated at 6E and HDMI rated at 2.1. The rest of the features are the same.

Some of the most original setups can be found with small form factor PCs, which occupy a vibrant niche. Mini-ITX motherboards may not be able to handle a 16-core processor at their core, but one look at the specifications should dispel any such misconceptions. If you like SFF motherboards, this one is the best, and could even teach larger competitors a few things about product design, thermals, and stability.
You’ll notice that this pocket powerhouse has a lot in common with the AORUS Master. Dark tones, brushed textures, and gunmetal gray accents are evident. As most of the PCB is covered in armor, you won’t get much to see. To prevent interference, it is eight layers thicker than on standard-sized mobos. On the side, there is even space for RGB lighting, with two headers awaiting more.
The X570 I AORUS Pro Wi-Fi isn’t prone to heat buildup within small form factor PCs, but its contribution is minimal. With a backplate that keeps the board from bending, it draws more heat away. Aside from the combination M.2 slot and chipset heatsink, there’s also a large metal slab cooling the VRM.
With eight single phases supplying 70 amps of clean power each to AMD’s finest Ryzen 9 5950X motherboard, it won’t break a sweat. The VRM exceeds what you’d expect for such a tiny motherboard. If the overall cooling of the system is up to it, you can even do some minor overclocking and keep temperatures well within acceptable levels.

In addition to a limited number of internal connections, the board also has two fan headers, which are hybrid, meaning fans, pumps, or flow monitors can be connected. In addition to the two M.2 drives, there are four SATA connectors on top, plus USB 2.0 and 3.2 headers.
Two M.2 slots are available, but they aren’t equal. Its front M.2 slot is PCIe 4.0, just like the X16 GPU slot, but it doesn’t have its own heatsink and can only transfer data at PCIe 3.0 speed. Due to size limitations, only two DIMM slots are available, so the amount of usable memory is 64GB. You can use any high-density DDR4 RAM sticks, but you should look for low-profile models to avoid clearance problems.
We’re disappointed with Gigabyte’s I/O design approach on the AORUS, but everything else has been great so far. Why did Gigabyte need three video outs on a board as small as this, when one would have sufficed? There are only three analog 3.5mm plugs, Ethernet, Wi-Fi antennas, and six USB ports on the already cramped I/O, including one USB-C port.

If you’re a fan of ASUS’s motherboard design but don’t want to buy a Crosshair VIII Hero, then embrace the TUF alliance! Don’t believe it – pairing a $200-ish motherboard with AMD’s flagship CPU isn’t as crazy as it sounds. Power delivery systems provide more than sufficient power to handle the processor’s relatively modest demands on the TUF Gaming X570-PRO.
Despite its glossy black base, the PCB is covered with complex gray stencils that cross diagonally to provide visual interest. However, some might object to the yellow accents found throughout.
Although it isn’t a board you’d want in the centre of your clean white case, there is surely a market for it. RGB enthusiasts, however, won’t find much to be excited about since there is only one strip of onboard lighting and three headers to amplify it.
Aside from its looks, the TUF Gaming X570-PRO has a robust feature set that rivals more expensive competitors in terms of performance. Take the VRM, for example. With the same technology as the HERO, it provides twice the power per phase by using two power stages without the need for a more sophisticated PWM controller. You can run the 5950X at stock settings or even overclock it without any issues with the resulting current.

Connectivity
Inspect downward to see that there are a multitude of internal connections. The area around the CPU is compact, so choose a cooler that does not take up much space. A speedy USB-C header is also included in the case, along with five fan and pump headers. Only one of the two M.2 drives has a heatsink, but eight SATA drives mean you have no excuse to not finish your Steam backlog. There are two more M.2 drives, but only one has a heatsink.
In terms of I/O, it’s not terrible, but there are a couple of problems with it. HDMI, DVI, and PS/2 take up a lot of its space, and the backplate has to be mounted yourself. Because of this, you’ll only have seven USB ports as a result. Considering the price, the 2.5G Ethernet is standard, but Wi-Fi and a fully functional audio stack are pleasant surprises.
