As part of today’s post, we are going to give you an opportunity to check out AMD’s new budget video card the RX 6750 XT. It features the Navi 22 XT die, which is almost identical to the Navi 22 XT die in the RX 6700 XT, except for the fact that it comes with an 18 Gb/s GDDR6 memory chip. Based on its location in the product stack between the RX 6700 XT and RX 6800, it should prove to be more than adequate to play games at WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution.

VRM design

The MSI Gaming X Trio version of this card features a robust VRM design, a large silver and black triple-fan shroud with MSI’s TORX 4.0 fans, and an overclock. MSI’s Twin Frozr 2 cooling solution includes RGB LED lighting along the backplate and the MSI Gaming Dragon logo to accent the card’s front. The card’s backside is cleaned up and rigidified with an aluminum backplate featuring the Gaming Dragon logo. In general, I find it to be a very attractive card that stands out in most builds and compliments them well.

Our testing of this overclocked card showed it’s right between the 6700 XT and the RX 6800 and right ahead of the RTX 3060 Ti when it’s overclocked. In most gaming benchmarks, this card achieves well over 60 frames per second at FHD (1920 x 1080) and WQHD, using very little power. It stays at 230 watts (GPU only) while in stock mode. The RX 6750 XT can handle 4K UHD but with a slight reduction in quality it is a bit of a stretch.


This card’s MSI RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio will cost a premium over the reference model’s $549 MSRP, which is unknown at this time. We’re going to take this card to the test bench and see how it performs. This card offers factory overclocking, improved power delivery, a solid aluminum backplate, a Tri-Frozr 2.0 cooling system, and a three-year warranty.

More on the features

As with the reference cards, the MSI RX 6750 XT GXT differs from them in the cooler, power delivery, and clock speed departments. Here we are going to talk about the MSI RX 6750 XT GXT’s clock speed. It is spec’d at 2554 MHz Game Clock and 2623 MHz Boost Clock, which are marginally faster than the reference design. In testing, the card will be tested most heavily on the game clock, so it should be successful.

72 billion transistors and 2,560 stream processors

It is a 335 mm2 NVI 22 XT card with a core of 172 billion transistors and 2,560 stream processors, 64 ROPs, and 160 TMUs, just half as many as the MSI RX 6900 XT. 96MB infinity cache and 12 GB of GDDR6 are part of the infinity cache on the RX 6750 XT, and this card has exactly the same specifications as the RX 6700 XT. The only difference between the 6750 XT and its twin is a faster memory speed of 2250 MHz compared to its twin, which has a base speed of 2000 MHz. As MSI’s RX 6750 XT lineup remains a secret, we don’t have a lot of information. Gaming X is the product line within the Gaming line of GPUs, sitting near the top of the lineup. We have a Gaming Trio Plus on top, followed by an “X” model and a “Z” model. The Gaming Trio is at the back, with a quad fan Tri Frozr 2.0 cooler. In contrast to the RX 6700 XT models, which all have dual fans Twin Frozr 8, the 6750 XT model gets the triple fan Tri Frozr 2.0 coolers, which are always reliable.

2.5-slot airflow control heatsink

This MSI RX 6750 XT is part of the Gaming X Trio and features a Tri Frozr 2.0 thermal design. We have a 2.5-slot airflow control heatsink below these fans with a premium 2.5-slot airflow control heatsink. The Torx 4.0 fan blades have linked outer rings, which is said to deliver significantly better airflow and low noise than traditional designs. A wave-curved 2.0 fin edge disrupts unwanted airflow harmonics to reduce noise and provide additional surface area on the heatsink. Air is guided over air deflectors providing additional surface area.

core-pipe technology

MSI’s core-pipe technology is also found in the Tri Frozr design. The heat pipes snake through the heat sink so that they can make maximum contact with the GPU and spread heat evenly. A large amount of thermal tape is used in the RX 6750 XT GXT to facilitate thermal transfer from memory, the VRM, and chokes. We tested the MSI RX 6750 XT’s cooling performance at stock speeds, and it was extremely quiet.

We also have the MSI Center with various software available for download and installation, including MSI AfterBurner for overclocking, memory and core speeds. Mystic Light is the most notable application available through the MSI Center. In addition to the RX 6750 XT GXT and MSI motherboards and coolers, Mystic Light lets you control RGB LEDs with full control.

A revolutionary ring design and paired fan blades ensure that the airflow and air pressure are focused on the heatsink and reduce the amount of airflow outside of it. TORX FAN 4.0 is a masterpiece built on teamwork, having pairs of fan blades linked together.

A clean and neat design can be seen on the MSI RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio, which is primarily black, with a silvery-grey accent on the four corners. The Gaming X Trio features a black backplate with an RGB LED strip on the outer edge. There is also a black Gaming Dragon on the hubs. In addition to some RGB LEDs running kitty-corner on the center fan, the white “MSI” and Dragon logo light up from behind.  Additionally, MSI has added an aluminum backplate with the Gaming Dragon logo, which is excellent at dissipating heat and protecting PCBs. Most build themes should be able to accommodate the Gaming X Trio.

We can see from the I/O layout that the card contains three DisplayPorts (v1.4 with DSC) as well as one HDMI port (v2.1) which supports 4K@120Hz at maximum resolution. The card supports up to 8K resolutions (7680×4320). As far as the I/O plate is concerned, the card does not exhaust air directly, but there are holes in the plate to allow the warmed air to escape. Two 8-pin PCIe connectors are used to carry power to the GPU. When combined the PCIe slot provides 375 W of in-spec power, and this is more than enough for the 250 W (TBP) graphics card even when overclocked with a 450 W TDP.

As for the 2.5-slot solution for the RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio, MSI has used their premium Twin Frozr 2.0 heatsink with a Core Pipe design that contacts the GPU die and memory ICs. The heat pipes are 6 mm, and the heat spreader incorporates the Core Pipe design as well. Also included in this card are 3 Torx 4.0 dual ball-bearing fans that push plenty of air through the heatsink, allowing it to measure 13.2 x 5 x 2.2-inches (324 x 123 x 55mm). You can see in the image below that MSI has added an additional heat sink and thermal tape in order to help provide a cooler environment for MOSFETs and chokes as well.

Our PCB becomes visible after we remove the heatsink. The Navi 22 XT silicon with its 335 mm2 die area is unmarked and six Samsung memory ICs are arranged around it (K4ZAF325BM-HC18) designed to operate at 18 Gbps. An OnSemiconductor NCP81022N controller feeds NCP302045 45A MOSFETs, a two-phase design. The GPU core power is controlled by an 8-phase International Rectifier IR32517 and seven NCP302155 55A MOSFETs.

The testing system is based on the new Intel Z690 platform and utilizes the Intel i9-12900K 8P, 8E/24t CPU and DRAM in a dual-channel super-speed configuration of 5200MHz with CL40 timings, which in my opinion represents a good balance between performance and price. I say this because there is no microcontroller involved.

Synthetic Benchmarks

Futuremark was acquired in 2014 by Underwriters Laboratories, which is now UL. Futuremark has not changed its benchmarks, just its name. UL acquired Futuremark earlier in 2018. The benchmarks remain the same, just their names have changed. As these tests provide a good indication of performance on modern titles, we chose to stick with 3DMark Fire Strike (Extreme) and 3DMark Time Spy.

UL describes the graphics in 3DMark Fire Strike (Extreme) as being highly detailed and complex, far exceeding other DX11 benchmarks and games. The benchmark supports asynchronous computation, explicit multi-adapters, and multi-threading, and runs at 2560 x 1440. 3DMark Time Spy supports new API features such as asynchronous computing, explicit multi-adapters, and multi-threading. This benchmark was designed for Microsoft DirectX Raytracing-capable PCs with Windows operating systems.

Despite overclocking, the Gaming X Trio still manages to outperform its bigger sibling in most of our synthetic benchmarks.

Gaming Benchmarks

With the addition of F1 2021 and Far Cry 6, we’ve added more modern gaming benchmarks to our testing suite. The Division 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, and Metro: Exodus are the games that we kept. Some of them are DX12 games, so they should give you a good sense of how well the card performs.

There is little difference in gaming benchmarks. The Navi 22 XT core does get a boost from the 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory, but the silicon itself appears to run at a much faster rate than the RX 6700 XT we reviewed, consistently running at 100 MHz. This higher clock speed is most likely caused by the maturity of the process and some selective binning at the foundry.

There are several higher resolution results below, starting with 2560 x 1440 and going up to the 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 (which is rapidly becoming increasingly popular). It proves a little challenging for the GXT to achieve 4K resolution, but the MSI RX 6750 XT is very capable of 2560 x 1440 WQHD, and the quality has been cranked high so that it is a solid choice for gamers looking for WQHD gaming.

Ray Tracing and FSR Testing


This is a snapshot of our results from our Far Cry 6 Ray-Tracing test at 1440p and 4K resolutions and we have posted the results in the left column below. The RX 6750 XT was able to render Ray-Tracing at 1440p and maintained this frame rate for over 60 frames per second, but it was not able to render Ray-Tracing at 4K with the quality set to maximum.

AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution can boost the frames per second significantly during 4K testing, almost as much as Nvidia’s DLSS does.

The Folding@Home project was created by Stanford University, but has since moved to St. Louis University. Understanding how human proteins “fold” or misfold, which is where their name comes from, will help them develop treatments and cures for a variety of diseases. In order to gain this understanding, enormous computational horsepower is required to simulate the folding of human proteins. Our spare time allows us to fold at home at home thanks to people like you and me.

As part of folding@home’s development of treatments, processing power is added to a wide range of proteins. In addition to cancer, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s, and other diseases, they have a whole list of diseases to which they are working, including cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and others.

A couple of screenshots have been taken of the MSI RX 6750 XT GXT folding project 18039, a cancer-related protein, which the MSI RX 6750 XT GXT folding machine folds at approximately 800,000 PPD and uses approximately 130W in doing so. Cryptocurrency Mining

Our readers might be interested with the current market if we use NiceHash, which has a built-in benchmark. Since I do not mine for crypto, we thought it might be interesting. The MSI RX 6750 XT is running stock without any optimizations. It could earn about USD 1.60 per day using the GPU alone at current prices.

Nice Hash Cryptoming

With a few tweaks, we managed to make some slight gains, including reducing GPU core speeds and voltages, while boosting the 12 GB of GDDR6 speed. With only 130 W of power, the hash rate is up to 41 MH/s, and the temperature is still fairly low at 44°C. Someone more experienced could probably achieve a higher hash rate.

Overclocking the MSI RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio

Those familiar with MSI Afterburner know that it is a great overclocking tool for all graphics cards, not just MSI branded ones. AMD 6000 graphics cards work well with MSI Afterburner. There are still plenty of knobs to adjust, including GPU Core speed, Memory, and Power. Although we have a voltage tuning option in recent years, the manufacturers simply don’t let us increase the stock voltage anymore, despite the fact that there is still a voltage tuning option available. It can be lowered by using the Radeon Software, but only in certain cases.

A “balanced” mode and a “quiet” mode

In addition, Radeon Software allows us to overclock the GPU in two ways: a “balanced” mode and a “quiet” mode. The balanced mode kept the fan rotation to a minimum even though the fan target temperature junction was still very quiet, resulting in a slightly lower power limit and a higher fan target temperature junction. You can also select the manual tuning option once you have selected it; once you have done so, you will have all the overclocking options available to you.

We overclocked using MSI’s AfterBurner overclocking software. It has an intuitive interface that is very easy to use. Once you have set up your overclocked settings, they will be automatically activated upon starting Windows. There was one problem we encountered here. The power target stayed unchanged even though we had set our memory and core OCs. We had to open MSI AB and manually set it after every reboot.

limited headroom

Due to the limited headroom available with the 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory, we decided to bump the memory speed from 2250 to 2280 MHz. With stock cooling, the MSI RX 6750 XT ran around 2900 MHz consistently at these settings, which is impressive. As a result of the RX 6750 XT core, we were able to boost the factory boost by around 200 MHz.

3DMark Fire Strike Extreme Overclocked Results

Through some of our benchmarks, the MSI card peaked at 2933 MHz and consistently ran at that speed, but settled around 2910 MHz under more demanding workloads. In comparison to 17,855 marks in 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme, we scored 18,603, which was a 4-5% increase consistent across most of our benchmarks.

Temperatures and Power Use

At stock speeds and overclocked, we run Shadow of the Tomb Raider and F1 2021 benchmarks to test power consumption. We monitor temperatures throughout this testing, which are listed below. We extend the benchmark period (time) to simulate more accurately gaming conditions by allowing the card to settle.

F1 2020 and SOTR reached peak temperatures of 62°C on the MSI RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio at stock settings. In F1 2020 and SOTR, temperatures increased slightly after overclocking, with the aforementioned temperatures reaching 66°C. Overclocked, the fans ramped up slowly, settling at 50%, and were inaudible over the rest of the system. These results are excellent and demonstrate just how well MSI’s Tri Frozr 2.0 cooling solution works.

At stock, the MSI RX 6750 XT consumes 482 Watts, but overclocked it consumes 509 Watts (both in SOTR). A good power supply of 650 Watts will suffice for most systems, even when overclocking the card and CPU.

Featuring a Tri Frozr 2.0 heatsink, this RX 6750 XT fits most mid-tower cases and is quiet and effective with an appealing appearance. Please check your dimensions before purchasing. MSI’s Gaming X Trio will definitely bring a premium over the reference RX 6750 XT’s MSRP, despite having these features. The reference model AMD RX 6750 XT’s MSRP is $549. The MSI RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio’s MSRP is not known yet, but we will update this article once it is available.
