NEC NP-P525UL projector REVIEW

With a WUXGA resolution and a brightness of 5,000 lumens, the NEC P525UL 3LCD projector offers many features at a price of $3,099. It offers a laser light engine and comes in an installation class installation class 3LCD projector. The size, weight, and price of this projector are on the lower end of the installation class of projectors rated at or near 5,000 lumens, especially those that use laser light sources.
At this price point, it is unusual to find a projector that uses a laser/phosphor wheel light engine that can last for 20,000 hours. Compared to the P502WL series, the P525UL uses a 3LCD imager instead of a single DLP chip, which improves color reproduction. It is a class projector for installation, but it can also be used in a classroom or conference room. A projector with networking capabilities and perhaps the ability to simultaneously display content from multiple sources, including mobile devices, would probably be of interest to colleges/universities that are looking for a low maintenance projector for educational use.
A retail price of just $2,499 makes the NEC P525UL a great value, even without the interchangeable motorized lenses, edge blending, or projection mapping features found on more expensive installation class projectors. In addition to being a very good entry-level projector for large venues, the P525UL was also suitable for some conference rooms and classroom applications as a runner-up for our Higher Education Best in Classroom: Performance – Runner-up award.

OVERVIEW

NEC Display PJ-P525UL LCD Projector
Our Best Classroom Projectors report would not have been possible without Epson America’s sponsorship. For those looking at entry level laser projectors suitable for large conference rooms and classroom applications, the NEC P502WL was awarded a special interest award a couple of years ago as a very good large venue installation laser projector. A number of enhancements have been made to the NEC 525UL over the P502WL, making it even better.
This projector has a laser/phosphor light source rated slightly brighter than the P502WL and has a small footprint. It is a 5,000 lumen installation WUXGA projector with a laser/phosphor light source. P525UL features a laser/phosphor wheel light engine that is rated for 20,000 hours of maintenance-free operation, just like the older P502WL. Additionally, the P525UL has a Constant Brightness mode to ensure that it delivers consistent looking imagery throughout its lifespan.
Compared to the P502WL series, the P525UL uses a 3LCD imager instead of a single DLP chip. A Self-Color Correction feature of the P525UL compensates for the natural color shift that occurs as the projector ages based on usage hours, ensuring consistent color. The increased contrast ratio of the projector may be also explained by switching from DLP to LCD. Compared to the P502UL with dynamic contrast, the P525UL has a 500,000:1 ratio (with Light Adjustment).

Connectivity
The P525UL is a WUXGA projector, but it is capable of accepting 4K@30P content via HDMI or HDBaseT. The P525UL is equipped with a 1.6x zoom lens, dual HDMI and HDBaseT inputs, as well as manual horizontal and vertical lens shift. LAN and USB 2.0A support are also included for network management and third-party device powering. The MultiPresenter software can be used in conjunction with the Wireless Module (NP05LM1) to display for up to 16 simultaneous connections.
I couldn’t even hear it from three feet away in ECO Mode, which makes this NEC P525UL a truly unique installation projector. The P525UL produces only 22db in ECO Mode and 27db at full power.
