Razer’s Synapse software gives users a range of options for customizing the Viper Ultimate. This lets you re-program buttons, adjust DPI, and change a variety of other options. The eight buttons in Synapse can be adjusted easily, and you can also add a Hypershift button. Upon pressing and holding the Hypershift button, you can then program a second action for all the other mouse buttons. In this way you can nearly double the number of mouse buttons you can program.
There are many other things you can do. There are many settings you can customize, including keyboard button presses, lighting levels, DPI levels, launching apps, and more. You can disable all the buttons individually if you do not need them.
Up to five different DPI levels are available between 100 and 20,000 DPI. Although we think that 20,000 is insane, we do appreciate the ability to adjust the settings to our liking. There might be some people whose wrist movements are just so wildly different than ours.

With the Viper Ultimate, Razer has outdone itself yet again, delivering a slim, sturdy, and ambidextrous mouse that has nearly as much responsiveness as your standard wired mouse. Although it does not offer weights or a way to change the feel of its heft, the Viper Ultimate is still a very good choice if you do not want to sacrifice its smooth feel and responsiveness.

Performance
Razer claims the battery lasts up to 70 hours between charges, which is true. It took us about a week with the Viper Ultimate to notice that it drains extremely slowly when playing both games and going about day-to-day tasks. We liked it a lot more than our Magic Mouse for our MacBook Pro, since charging peripherals isn’t something, we typically do much of.
Sadly, one area in which it falls short is in its ability to customize buttons: it has left and right-click buttons, a scroll wheel that clicks, and two programmable buttons on each side. In any case, it’s capable of serving just about any gamer who doesn’t use macros or other abilities beyond the four that are available. I was pleasantly surprised by how accurate and satisfying clicking the buttons felt. All of them register, no matter whether you are testing them in twitch shooters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or aiming in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Focus+ Optical Sensor
Yet its aesthetic appeal is not the only factor contributing to its high quality. A 650 inch per second tracking speed allows the mouse to keep up with your movements on screen, which is also lightning fast. Especially in rhythm and music games like Osu!, using this mouse is like using a stylus – its smooth, natural movements made me feel as though I was using one.
We definitely can attest to the fact that there is nearly zero latency with Razer’s HyperSpeed Wireless technology. This has been our experience with this peripheral. When we tried out a round of Overwatch and switched between completing work-related tasks, it tracked beautifully as well, even when we placed it on top of the blanket we had wrapped ourselves in. We were surprised by how well it performed on a fleece throw.

To be honest, $149/£149/AU$249 is an expensive price for entry. On the upside, you do get what you pay for. It is undoubtedly possible to find a comparable wireless mouse for less, but the Viper Ultimate excels in a number of key areas, including responsiveness, visual appeal, build quality, and battery performance.
If you’re a Razer fan, this is a no-brainer. If you’re looking for something different, the Razer Blade might take a bit of convincing, but you’ll end up with one of the best wireless gaming mice you will find right now, and one of Razer’s best.
